Giclée print (ligedition of 30 pieces printed on acid-free paper Cotton Smooth 265 g/m2 62cm x 40cm (A2) Signed, numbered and dated Printed in Copenhagen. All hand drawn then inverted using Muji's 0-38/0.5 fine liners. One of the most fascinating places on earth has to be Akihabara (Electric City), located in Tokyo. As close an incarnation to the fictional Chiba city, brought to life in William Gibson's Neuromancer (1984), I play on the 'techno-orientalist' tendencies of the west to depict the 'Far East' in neon kanji, AI-driven dystopias and looming skyscrapers. A beautiful thing to Google is the Osaka-based supermarket chain TAMADE. This was aesthetic overload that also fed into this meditation on my experience in Japan at night. Photographed in February sunlight, the colours are as close to true as a screen can offer. I have also included an image of the print under darker conditions - fascinating how the inks react according to light conditions in such a way.
